Week 4 progress
Murphy must be at the controls and reading from his rule book. I was appointed for jury duty which I hoped would be postponed, called off, or dismissed. Of course that would not happen this week because I had a Monday appointment to complete my face-to-face interview and department tour with what I hoped would be my #1 offsite contact. I spent all of Monday - 9AM to 4PM - and half of my Tuesday at the courthouse. Monday was spent being selected, questioned, and appointed to a jury. Tuesday, the jury I was appointed to agreed to let our defendant spend the next several months incarcerated.
On the bright side, my offsite contact rescheduled for next Tuesday, the 11th. I have been working on the staff training project, Google Sheets, and will have the outline and objectives by the due date. I am learning that Google Sheets is very powerful and will do more than I think (hope) I will ever need a spreadsheet to do. My Professional Development project will target entry level users, so I will not have to go into set-ups and formats. At least not in this session. If they (my contacts) like the results, that may change.
I will post the pictures of Shaw's Manager of Learning Content and Technologies in next week's blog. In the meantime, here is his contact information....

The Domotex show started Wednesday, the 5th at the World Congress Center in Atlanta. I went on the 6th for the day. I walked the show visiting customers and friends. I took in the only available training opportunity that aligned with my current role - Design Personified: Turning Trends into Reality with Emily Morrow. The show was not well attended. I wondered if it was due to the inclement weather. I think the light turnout affected Emily and her panelists as well. The show was scheduled for 1.5 hours and they wrapped everything up at the 1 hour mark. The training was about trends in flooring including color, new manufacturing techniques in high-end printing, Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) and how the product is effecting the flooring industry, design software and social media, down-sized dwellings (tiny homes), and how popular shows still push style in (mostly) residential markets. While the content was not foreign to me, I did learn a lot about the LVT product and how some manufacturers are using discarded carpet in its production. I also learned that design trends were influenced more by experienced designers and colorists than by younger (millenial) designers. My thinking was that change was traditionally driven by the "under thirty" generations. Something for me to fact check....
Poor quality on the projector screen 😞
This week was spent working on the Professional Development project for my primary site, attending a trade show, and trying to secure a 3rd site. The week ended with snow. As I write, there is 3.5 inches of snow here. I hope everyone had a productive week.
Greetings from North Georgia!
