Week 3
In week three, I finally started making some progress. I had (email and hangout) contact with the Manager of Learning Content and Technologies for Shaw Industries, Miles Ford, and he had several projects that he needed working on.
Since my focus was on staff professional development, I chose a Google Sheets training video project for hourly workers. My intent with this project is to show some of the features available in Google Sheets that are commonly used, such as formulas for monetary budgeting and time studies. I will also advise students to explore the many pre-made templates available, and offer links to other training materials.
I was scheduled to have a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Ford and his team on Monday, February 3rd, but my inability to get out of jury duty has cancelled that meeting - yet another missed deadline I suppose.
Also in week three, my director, CEO of Tricycle Inc. Aernout Hetem (see photo) agreed in our interview that he needed the computers in the SIM Factory updated with new hardware. He ordered new Solid State Hard Drives, and I will assist in the installation and associated updates when those arrive. The updates will include backing the current systems up, and re-initializing the computers back to a usable state (the new drives will replace the current boot drives) including installing the operating system, resetting all email and network parameters, installing drivers and, finally, restoring the backup. I estimate that each computer will take 6 to 8 hours to complete. There are 5 systems in total.
After, I will train the users on the new versions of installed software, evaluate the learning, and revise as needed. More pictures will follow as the project progresses. For now, the only photo is of the boss during our discussion (interview) of the project.
