Face-to-face - Week 4

Planning...
In this course, the students are comprised of staff at Tricycle Incorporated. The staff is comprised of the Sim Factory division. The Sim Factory staff uses a very technical piece of Apso software called Sim Center, in conjunction with other standard imaging software, to complete their projects.  There are 5 Sim Factory machines in total.
Upon interviewing the CEO/CTO of Tricycle, Mr. Aernout Hetem, we agreed that the Sim Center software needed to be updated. Mr. Hetem also wanted to update part of the hardware that his designers used as well. Mr. Hetem ordered the hardware, and I will begin to update the computers when the hardware arrives. Due to the nature of the hardware updates, the computers will have to be upgraded piece-meal, meaning that each one will have to be completed, tested, and put back into production before starting on the next. The process of updating the hardware and the associated re-configuring the machines and installing all software will take approximately one 8 hour day per machine if all goes well.
After the software and hardware updates, I will do a formal professional development instruction on the new software. The current users are already versed on the software from previous versions, so there is no meaningful pre-instruction measure. The users will be surveyed on the instruction to form a qualitative measure of how well the instruction covered the material. The measure will include an anonymous question and answer sheet and a general discussion group. The responses and suggestions will be tallied and adjustments to instruction formulated. The instruction will then be revised and the resulting instruction will be offered in screen cast form and posted on a corporate website for internal training use.
The study group consists of 4 men and 1 woman ranging in age from late 20’s to middle 50’s. All have been at their current position for at least 4 years. The most senior staffer has been with the company for 15 years and at her current management position for 10 years.
Following instruction, the users will be able to construct, modify, and create designs using the techniques shown. They will develop more constructive work methods and collaborative projects through the instruction as well as through the group evaluation process. The users will be asked to evaluate the software as compared to the previous version they were using.  (Blooms levels: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and evaluation.)
